The Decorah Middle School Mock Trial Team finished seventh at the State Competition over the weekend. The Middle School team won their first round against Eddyville-Blakesburg and their second round against Carroll before losing in the third round to Johnston.
The Decorah Middle School team for the second year in a row won the Anthony Critelli Award for Professionalism and Courtroom Decorum. The award is voted on by each team.
Finally, Lara Guzman received an Outstanding Witness Award for playing Police Detective Stacy Monogram. During each round of competition the judges are able to nominate students to receive Outstanding Witness and Attorney awards. A student must have been ranked in the number one position by both judges in order to win the award.
Decorah Middle School students Maggie Breitenstein (witness), Nathan Burkes (witness), Kalle Solberg (attorney), and Gabe Varney (attorney) received Honorable Mentions.
