Winneshiek Medical Center has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in computed tomography, sometimes called CAT scanning. The accreditation was awarded by the American College of Radiology, which recently completed a review of the hospital
The ACR gold seal is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed.
Meanwhile, Winneshiek Medical Center also has been awarded a re-accreditation for its mammography program. That review was through the Mammography Quality Standards Act.
State officials conduct an MQSA review of all of the department's documentation, including quality of care, equipment performance, medical reports and outcome audits, and number of continuing-education hours for each technician.
Winneshiek Medical Center's six board-certified mammography technologists perform approximately 2,400 mammograms each year.
