School Board approves Instructional Support Program; sets date for bond sale

The Decorah Community School Board dealt with two major financial matters on Monday night.

Their first item of business was to adopt a resolution to continue participation in the Instructional Support (Levy) Program. This participation will continue for another five years and money will come from state aid, instructional support property tax levy, and an instructional support income surtax. This past year the program generated over $671,000 and is seen as critical to school operations via the General Fund. There was no public comment at the related public hearing at the beginning of the meeting.

The Board also approved November 21 as the deadline for bids on the sale of $7,410,000 in bonds for the last portion of funding for the high school renovation (and possible other renovation projects, depending on final project costs). The Board will take action later that day on the bids, with funds made available after the first of the year.
