Farmers in Iowa will now have two more weeks in which they are allowed to transport overweight loads without getting a special permit.
State Representative Bob Hager of Dorchester has worked with the Governor's Office to win the extension. The overweight load restriction was scheduled to begin Monday, but now will begin November 28th.
Hager says the action will allow for vehicles transporting Iowa's crops such as soybeans, corn, and hay to be overweight (not exceeding 90,000 pounds gross weight) and still use the roads without a special permit.
As the deadline was set to expire, Rep. Hager reached out to the governor's office, encouraging action on behalf of Northeast Iowa farmers.
