For those interested in exploring Tibetan Medicine and healing
techniques, RiverView Dharma Center in Lansing, Iowa, now hosts Doctor of Tibetan Medicine Yangbum Gyal for consultations every other month.
Dr. Gyal, TMD, returns to RiverView Dharma Center on Sunday,
November 13. He may also accept appointments for Monday, November 14, but only after his Sunday schedule fills. He will come again on Sunday January 15 and every other month thereafter. Cost for a consultation is $60. The cost of any herbs that may be prescribed is additional.
Dr. Gyal offers a traditional Tibetan medical healing approach
with an assortment of therapeutic treatments, including pulse reading, urine analysis, herbal remedies, personal dietary and lifestyle modifications, Ku-Nye (Tibetan massage), and body-mind therapy.

Dr. Gyal graduated in 1988 from the Malho medical school in
Rebgong, Tibet. He obtained the degree of Menpa Kachupa and Menrampa (equivalent to a western PhD) in traditional Tibetan medicine at Men-Tsee-Khang (Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute) in Dharamsala, India, where he later served as a resident doctor, medical research fellow, and professor. Dr. Gyal also has served as a resident doctor at the Hargay Health Center in Amdo, Tibet.
He has taught Tibetan language and topics on Tibetan medicine at
Indiana University-Bloomington and he is now serving as honorary fellow at the Center for South Asia, University of Wisconsin- Madison. Dr. Gyal hasauthored the Tibetan Medical Dietary Book: Vol. I, The Potency and Preparation of Vegetables and has published and presented
papers on Tibetan medicine and other related topics. He has held workshops on Tibetan medicine in the Midwest and has made medical tours to different parts of India and Japan.
RiverView Dharma Center is the main teaching facility for Acharya
Lama Dawa Rinpoche, a respected Buddhist master born near the border of Tibet and Nepal and educated in India. The center is a gathering place for people to share knowledge and ideas and provides a beautiful setting in which Lama Dawa can give public talks on Buddhism, as well as private instruction. Guest teachers also are invited to give classes on Dharma, meditation, yoga, the healing arts, and languages, and Dr. Gyal will conduct regularly scheduled Tibetan Medicine clinics at the center.
