Frankville Community Presbyterian Church completes its restoration project

Frankville Community Presbyterian Church has completed the restoration and repair of the exterior of its church building.

The Frankville church exterior project began in November 2009 with new siding and repair to soffits and fascia.  In spring and summer 2010, a new concrete approach and handrails were installed.  In fall 2010 the congregation worked on landscaping and trim painting.  The project was completed this fall with the new steel-shingled roof and new gutters and downspouts installed.

In addition to generous monetary support, church members and friends of the church provided much donated labor and materials for the project.  Fundraising events were held and donations/grant funds were also received from John Knox Presbytery, the Winneshiek Community Foundation, the John N. Bergstrom Endowment, Postville Community Presbyterian Church Endowment, the Depot Outlet, Fidelity Bank, and Gemini, Inc.

Contracted work on the project was done by Kohlmeyer, Inc. (siding), Quandahl Construction (concrete approach), Bodley Equipment & Repair (handrails), and Ashbacher Building Supply/H-L Construction (roof).  Mum plants were donated by Pamida of Waukon.

Established in 1853, Frankville Community Presbyterian Church is the only church in Frankville and the only Presbyterian church in Winneshiek County.  The building itself is rather unique in that it is actually two church buildings.  In 1921 the Methodist church and the Presbyterian church congregations that were located in the village of Frankville merged together, and the two buildings were joined.  The original Presbyterian church building was moved down the street from its original location next to the cemetery and was connected to the back of the Methodist building.  Maintaining this historic structure enables the church to continue its mission and work well into the future and benefits the entire area by offering a useful and accessible facility for community and county events.
