Luther swim teams raise money for cancer research

Posted: Tue, Nov 8, 2011 8:05 PM

The Luther College men's and women's swimming and diving teams on Tuesday afternoon participated in the 2011 "Hour of Power" event, honoring those who are fighting or have succumbed to cancer, including former Carleton swimmer Edward H. "Ted" Mullin, who passed away from synovial sarcoma, a rare soft-tissue cancer, in September 2006.

Since the event began five years ago, participants have raised more than $265,000 for the Ted Mullin Fund for Pediatric Sarcoma Research at the Comer Children's Hospital at the University of Chicago where Ted received treatment.

Members of the Luther College swimming and diving teams have been selling 300 wristbands that say "Cancer Sucks". The cost of the wristbands will be what ever you care to give.

If you would like to donate funds by check, make the check out to University of Chicago, with the memo line titled Ted Mullin fund. You can also contact Luther Head coach Lance Huber at hubela01@luther.edu for more details.
