The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department responded to two large underaged drinking parties in Calmar and Ossian over the weekend.
The Decorah Police Department's dispatch center received a report Saturday night of a large party at 600 W. Lewis Street in Calmar. Sheriff's deputies, Calmar police officers and Iowa State Patrol officers went to the scene and found 27 people. 20 citations will be issued for 18 to 20-year-olds found in possession of alcohol under the legal age. One juvenile will be referred for possession of alcohol under age.
Later the dispatch center received a report of a second large party--this one at 1394 185th Avenue on the south side of Ossian. Sheriff's deputies and Camar police officers discovered 51 people at the party. 23 citations will be issued for 18 to 20-year-olds found in possession of alcohol under the legal age. 11 juveniles will be referred for possession of alcohol under the legal age.
At both parties, individuals who said they were the designated drivers or who said they had not been drinking were given evaluations. Those that passed the evaluations were not given citations nor referred to juvenile court
