The owner of Decorah's only bottle and can redemption center says he plans to phase out the redemption part of his business.
Kelley Martin says his businesses has had to limit what it pays out per day because it was getting out of hand. He says there is very little financial gain involved in bottle and can redemption and huge amounts of work.
Martin says his small engine repair shop will remain OPEN and is growing nicely. The phase out of the redemption part of his business should be completed some time after the first of the year, with the small engine repair shop expanding and using all of the space at their building.
The closing of the redemption center means bottles and cans will have to be taken back to the stores where they were purchased. Iowa law requires any place that sells beverages to redeem beverage containers--so long as they are the cans and bottles they sold.
