Dr. David Heine wants to regain medical privileges at Winneshiek Medical Center

Former Winneshiek Medical Center Chief Medical Officer Dr. David Heine has contacted the hospital about getting his medical privileges restored at the hospital.

In 2007 Fillmore County authorities charged Dr. Heine with burglary, theft and trespassing for allegedly taking items from the boys' locker rooms at two high schools.  Dr. Heine then resigned from his position at Winneshiek Medical Center.

The Iowa Medical Board of Medicine then charged Dr. Heine with engaging in unprofessional conduct, but ruled that he did not pose an immediate risk to patients and that he could return to practicing medicine.  Heine was issued a public reprimand, ordered to pay a $2,500 fine and he was placed on probation for three years subject to ongoing counseling and Board monitoring.  Dr. Heine then opened his own medical practice.  He successfully completed the three year probation.

Winneshiek Medical Center Chief Administrative Officer Dan Werner says Heine has now been in contact with the hospital, asking to be given an application for hospital privileges.  Werner says the two sides "have sent letters back and forth."  He says the hospital plans to send an application to Dr. Heine, but also wants additional information from him before ruling on the application.
