Posted: Tue, Oct 18, 2011 4:27 PM

Coordinators of the DecorahReads! program are seeking 14 volunteers for a November session.

DecorahReads! is a partnership between Decorah Public Library and Kris Lynch's seventhgrade exploratory reading class. The program matches adult volunteers withseventh grade students for three book discussion meetings. Volunteers make acommitment to attend all three meetings.

Students choose a fiction bookto read and adult volunteers find their student match by selecting a book fromthe students' list of titles. As a pair, the volunteer and student both readthe book and meet to discuss it.

Through the Decorah Reads!program students learn about discussing a book with another person and theyalso receive encouragement from their adult partner. Adult volunteers have theopportunity to revisit childhood favorites, experience what is currentlypopular in young adult fiction, and to nurture their partners' enjoyment ofreading.
