Decorah High School has finished second in the state in the Bank Iowa Traveling Challenge Cup, the award that recognizes Iowa high school students for academic excellence and outstanding achievement during state competitions in athletics and in fine arts.

Decorah earned 1,110 points in the competition.  However, the first place high school, Waverly-Shell Rock, was in the same Class 3A classification.  Decorah earned more points than the winning schools in Class 4A (Iowa City West High School), in Class 2A (Iowa City Regina High School) and in Class 1a (Cedar Falls NU High).

Decorah had previously won the Challenge Cup the past three years.

Winning schools in each of the state's four classifications (1A, 2A, 3A and 4A) with the best combined score for academics, athletics, music, speech and debate receive a crystal award and $1,500 to be used for academic enhancement.
