Luther College has received a silver rating in recognition of sustainability achievements from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education through the STARS program.
STARS ("Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System") is a new program that measures and encourages sustainability in all aspects of higher education. The STARS program is the only one of its kind that involves publicly reporting comprehensive information related to a college or university's sustainability performance. Participants report achievements in three overall areas: education and research, operations and planning, and administration and engagement.
"STARS is a comprehensive tracking system that not only asks if (colleges) are doing certain actions related to sustainability, but also requires data and official policies to go with that action in order to receive full credit," said Luther sustainability student worker Calla Olson, who compiled and submitted the Luther data to the STARS program.
