Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation's Family Service Offices will start taking applications Monday for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.  In order to apply, individuals must be age 60 and older or have a disability.  Individuals under the age of 60 and those who are not disabled cannot apply until November 1st.

NEICAC Family Service Offices are open from 8:00 a.m. until noon on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  The Decorah office can be reached at (563) 382-8436, extension 150.

When applying for the heating assistance, official social security cards must be provided for ALL members of the household as a required part of the application.

The LIHEAP program is funded through the Iowa Department of Human Rights and has been established to help qualifying low-income Iowa homeowners and renters pay a portion of their primary heating costs.  All low-income Northeast Iowans are encouraged to apply, including senior citizens and individuals with disabilities.  Households burning wood or where heating is included as part of the rent may also be eligible for assistance.
