Farms in Winneshiek County use tens of millions of dollars worth of energy each year. That's why the Winneshiek Energy District's ag energy working group is looking for farmers interested in whole-farm energy audits. The group is hoping the results of the energy audits will allow them to learn more about the use of energy on local farms.
The first phase of this project has been a county-wide ag energy inventory. The group is learning where the major energy dollars are going in order to help the industry find the low-hanging savings.
The next phase of the project is to conduct pilot whole-farm energy audits and analyses.
Farmers interested in participating as a pilot audit this year or a whole-farm energy audit next year when the program may be running, should contact Energy District Ag Energy Project Coordinator Emily Scali at (563) 382-4207, extension 4, or emily@energydistrict.org.
