NEICAC to begin taking heating assistance applications Wednesday

Posted: Mon, Oct 31, 2011 4:52 PM

Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation's Family Service offices will start taking applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program beginning Wednesday.  NEICAC Family Service Offices are open from 8:00 a.m. until noon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Official social security cards must be provided for ALL members of the household as a required part of the application.

The program is funded through the Iowa Department of Human Rights and has been established to help qualifying low-income Iowa homeowners and renters pay a portion of their primary heating costs.  NEICAC officials caution that the program is not designed to pay all of a household's total energy costs, but to help pay part of the costs.  The actual money given to homeowners depends on several factors, including total household income, household size, dwelling type and type of heating fuel.

All low-income Northeast Iowans are encouraged to apply, including senior citizens and individuals with disabilities.  Households burning wood or where heating is included as part of the rent may also be eligible for assistance.
