Craig Goettsch from the Iowa Insurance Division provides training on the SAIF program for RSVP volunteers

Seniors are a prime target of con artists.  Even if you're a senior and you think you have no money or only Social Security, that doesn't stop a con artist from trying to take your money.

To stem the tide of increasing numbers of seniors being defrauded, the Iowa Insurance Division created a program called Seniors Against Investment Fraud (SAIF) to educate Iowans over the age of 50 about identity theft and investment fraud and how to avoid being victimized.

Four Winneshiek County RSVP volunteers have gotten training from the Iowa Insurance Division on this program--Roger Bergan, Julie Fischer, Howard Paskach and Pat Huber.  Also receiving the training were Amy Bouska and Bill Rinehart from Howard County; and Janet Steiner from Allamakee County.

The SAIF volunteers are now available for group presentations in Allamakee, Howard and Winneshiek counties. The volunteers are quick to point out that they are not experts in the field, but they are armed with important information about ways to avoid becoming a victim of fraud.

To set up a presentation, call the RSVP office at the Decorah Public Library, at (563) 382-3717 or toll free 1- 877-806-0623.
