Organizers of colon cancer fundraising run say the event raised over $10,000

Organizers of the Northeast Iowa Get Your Rear In Gear run and walk say that due to the success of the event over $10,000 will be available throughout the Northeast Iowa area in order to increase awareness about colon cancer and encourage preventative measures. 

A simple grant application is available for area providers and organizations.  Those interested in writing for a grant are encouraged to e-mail Laurie Martin at mothermartin55@gmail.com for more information.

The second annual "Get Your Rear In Gear 5K For Colon Cancer' event was held in Waukon on October 1st.  There were over 220 participants this year who came out to walk or run in this year's event. 

70 percent of the funds raised by the 5K event will remain in Northeast Iowa.

Organizers of the event say they are already planning the next 5K--the third annual Northeast Iowa Get Your Rear In Gear event is scheduled for October 6th, 2012.
