15 Decorah High School students receive All-State Music honors

15 Decorah High School musicians have been chosen for the All State Music Festival, based on the results of auditions over the weekend.

58 Decorah High School musicians participated in All-State Music auditions at West Delaware High School in Manchester on Saturday.  The students prepared difficult musical selections and then competed for spots in the All-State band, choir and orchestra ensembles. .The selected students were among just over 1,000 students statewide selected to perform at a concert at the Hilton Coliseum on the Iowa State University campus at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, November 19th.  A recording of theconcert will air on Iowa Public Television on Thanksgiving day.

Chosen for the All State Orchestra were DHS senior Jonathon Winter and juniors Lucas Blekeberg and Aubrey Ellickson on violin; senior Emma Breitenstein on viola; and junior Eric Fulsaas on string bass.

Chosen for the All State Choir as sopranos were juniors Bretta Krieg and Hannah and sophomore Aidan Spencer-Berg; as alto was sophomore Rita-Maria Guzman; as tenors were sophomores Brad Suhr and Nick Vande Krol; and as basses, junior James Ostlie and sophomore Kaleb Michel.

Named as first alternates were junior Claire Breitenstein on bassoon and junior Drew Schwartz on cello.

The following students were selected for a recall audition: senior Carolina Deifelt Streese on cello; junior Hans Holkesvik on bass; sophomore T. J. Misseldine on tenor; junior Kayla Peterson on alto; and sophomore Blake Taylor on bass.
