Four people were injured in a four vehicle accident on Highway 9 on Thursday.
Sheriff's deputies say three cars were stopped at the intersection with 172nd Avenue as one car was waiting to turn left. A fourth car--driven by 33-year-old Justin Helgerson of Decorah--did not notice the cars were stopped and ran into the rear of a car driven by 81-year-old Leo Berg of Decorah, pushing the car into a car driven by 37-year-old Eric Lensing of Decorah, which then struck the car driven by 60-year-old Andrea Zwack of Peosta.
Injured in the accident were 18-year-old Jean Berg, a passenger in the second car, as well as three occupants of the middle car--37-year-old Shawn Van Hoozer of Des Moines, 21-year-old Daniel Gregg of Altoona and 1-year-old Ava Van Hoozer of Des Moines. All four complained of neck pains, but declined to be taken to the hospital.
Helgerson was ticketed for failure to stop in an assured distance.
