Northeast Iowa Community College is the recipient of a $1.1 million grant from the Economic Development Administration to be used for the creation of a business and industry training center on the Calmar campus.
"This facility will allow us to better meet their needs and further enhance the college's already strong commitment to our local workforce," stated NICC Economic Development Coordinator Wendy Mihm-Herold. "The business and industry in the area have told us they need more specialized training programs, video conferencing and virtual reality capabilities as well as large spaces to train their workers off site," stated Dr. Mihm-Herold.
Matching funds from the college's $35 million bond levy were leveraged to receive the grant. The funds will be used to renovate the current Wilder Building on the Calmar campus. The renovation will provide meeting space for large conferences of over 200 people as well as video conferencing and virtual reality rooms, a computer lab, a technology resource training room, a board room and several smaller classrooms for breakout sessions.
