Enrollment at Northeast Iowa Community College is heavily influenced by the condition of the local economy--when people can't find jobs, they take classes at NICC to take the training they need to get a new job.
So it's probably good news for the local economy--although not as good news for NICC--that fall enrollment at the community college is down from last year.
NICC vice president of academic affairs Curt Oldfield reports that credit enrollment was down two percent in headcount and six percent in credit enrollment over last year.
Oldfield says there is one bright spot for NICC--online enrollment has grown to over 2,100 students.
