Figuring out the cost of attending Luther College is about to get easier for potential students and their parents.
The federal government has issued a mandate that the websites of colleges and other institutions of higher learning must include a net price calculator by the end of October. The theory is that this calculator will enable potential students to determine an approximate financial aid award from Luther. Families will have to enter data about family history, finances and eligibility for Luther scholarships.
Luther President Rick Torgerson, in remarks at his "State of the College Address" earlier this fall, said the federal mandate means a re-defining of financial aid awarding strategies at Luther. The college hired an outside firm to thoroughly analyze financial aid awarding practices for the past four years. The consulting firm recommended that the college streamline financial aid awarding practices and processes.
Said Torgerson, "Our goal is to ensure that capable students from all income groups and backgrounds continue to enroll, persist, and succeed at Luther and provide sufficient net revenue to continue providing compelling learning experiences."
