The first batches of homemade cookies sent from Decorah to the troops in Afghanistan arrived Monday in Afghanistan.
The project is the work of Boy Scout Troop 66 of Decorah, led by Eagle
Scouts Alex Michels and Cody Michels and Star Scout Kaleb Michels.
Boy Scout Troop 66 of Decorah and other volunteers will again be baking
cookies this Saturday at the Congregational Church in Decorah. The cookies will be sent to members of the 322nd Engineering Battalion in Afghanistan.
The public can drop off cookies at the church between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Cookies should be packaged one dozen to a bag, with the bag labeled with the kind of cookie.
Cash donations for the project can be dropped off at Farmers and Merchants Bank at WalMart. Thrivent for Lutherans will be supplementing the funds raised.
