Decorah Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Superintendent Andy Nimrod says Decorah is "...trying to stay on the cutting edge of fun" with its Park-Rec programs.

Nimrod told the Decorah Lions club that Park-Rec put on 31 programs during the summer, with 400 kids participating in T-ball and Little League and 200 adults playing softball.  Other summer programs offered were tennis, golf, track, canoeing, dog obedience, fishing, music and family outings.

Nimrod also told the Lions that work on six new tennis courts is continuing in cooperation with Decorah Community Schools; the Quandahl property adjacent to Will Baker Park has been purchased and plans are being made for its development; and the last two segments of Trout RunTrail are being worked on, with the bridge over Highway 9 scheduled to be completed by mid-summer of 2012.

Nimrod, who has been with Decorah Parks and Recreation for 13 years, told the Lions Club that while the Decorah Parks and Recreation Department employs only five full-time staff members, it hired 125 people for part-time jobs this summer.
