Sheriff's Department says STEP was a success

The Special Traffic Enforcement Program in Winneshiek County from August 25th through September 7th resulted in an increase in seat belt usage. 

A seatbelt survey taken before the start of the STEP showed 95.5 percent of vehicle occupants were using their seat belts.  Another survey taken after the STEP showed 98.4 percent of vehicle occupants were using their seat belts.

The STEP also resulted in 41 traffic citations and warnings, including one drunk driving arrest, two felony arrests and two arrest warrants served.
