Fewer than 100 votes cast in Decorah School Board election

Decorah Community School District votes stayed away from the polls on Tuesday in a school board election in which none of the candidates had opposition.  98 ballots were cast--out of a potential of 8,383 registered voters.

Newcomer John Hjelle received 95 votes, while incumbent Brian Petersburg had 89 votes and incumbent Melanie Tietz had 91 votes.

In North Winneshiek, Brenda Kreitzer had 14 votes, while Ben Lange received 11 write in. votes.

Also Tuesday, Decorah resident Jim Anderson received 98 votes to continue representing theDecorah, North Winneshiek and Howard Winneshiek voters on the NICC Board of Trustees.

There were no outstanding absentee ballots or provisional ballots, so these results, even though unofficial, are unlikely to change.  The Board of Supervisors will canvass the election results at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the courthouse.
