Luther art display tied to 150th anniversary

The Luther College Art Department has opened an alumni art exhibit in honor of the college's Sesquicentennial Celebration and the 75th anniversary of its art department.  The exhibit is on display through October 16th in the Kristin Wigley-Fleming Gallery in the Center for the Arts.

All art alumni and former art faculty who have continued to produce art since leaving Luther were invited to create something new for the special exhibit based on the Sesquicentennial theme "Transformed by the Journey."  Artists were also invited to create work based on a diamond in recognition of the department's 75th "diamond" anniversary or to explore the mathematical coincidence that the department will be exactly half the age of the college.

27 artists contributed art works to the exhibit, including paintings, prints, ceramics, fiber, mixed-media/assemblage pieces and a short film.  The submitted art represents more than 50 years of Luther graduating classes, ranging from a watercolor done by a 1961 graduate to work submitted by recent graduates.
