Iowa Department of Education puts Decorah Middle School on its list of schools not meeting "No Child Left Behind"

The Iowa Department of Education has listed 415 schools in the state as falling short of the standards of the federal No Child Left Behind legislation--including Decorah Middle School.  That's 29.6 percent of the schools in Iowa.

Decorah School Superintendent Mike Haluska says the "School In Need of Assistance" designation for Decorah Middle School comes from reading score by special education students in 5th through 8th grade.  He stresses that all other Decorah Middle School students met the NCLB standards in both reading and mathematics.

Haluska says "We will have a plan to deal with it."  He says the outline of that plan will be discussed at the Decorah School Board meeting on Monday, September 19th.
