Tuesday night was the final Decorah City Council meeting for City Administrator Jerry Freund, so numerous city officials marked the occasion by giving their thanks to Freund for his 18 years of service.
City Engineer Lindsay Erdman said of Freund, "You got it done and made it fun." City Attorney Rick Zahasky praised Freund for being "always accessible and responsive."
For his part, Freund thanked city department heads for their professionalism. "I truly appreciated the opportunity to serve," he said.
On Tuesday night the Decorah City Council agreed to extend Freund's retirement date to September 16th. After that date and until October 31st, he will be paid on an hourly basis to help newly-hired City Administrator Chad Bird, who will arrive at City Hall on October 3rd.
