Two Winneshiek County 4H members won awards at the Iowa State Fair clothing contest, held at the Iowa State University campus.

Laura Francois was recognized as being in the top 10 percent for the Fashion Revue division.  Francois exhibited a sparkled, aqua blue, 100 percent polyester prom dress.

Eleanor Lofte received the Central Iowa Sewing Guild Award for her constructed garment, a brightly colored sleeveless dress.

The two competed in the Fashion Revue division, which is for 4-H'ers who constructed their outfit.  Throughout the day, participants had the opportunity to attend educational workshops on the current trends in fashion; higher education opportunities in clothing, fashion, and textiles; careers in the field of fashion and design; and the development of important life skills. Besides attending workshops, the 4-H'ers also met one on one with a judge to discuss their understanding of design elements and principles related to their constructed garments. Participants also  modeled their outfits in a public fashion show.
