City Engineer Lindsay Erdman says he's drawing up plans that would turn Short Street into a three lane road.
The reconstruction of Short Street is scheduled for next year. The new street would have turn lanes, a bike lane and adjoining sidewalks. Erdman says he would like the city to buy an extra three feet of right-of-way on either side of the street to get a bigger boulevard.
Short Street property owner CJ Lensing called that suggestion "ridiculous," and disagreed with Erdman's contention that traffic is heavy enough on Short Street to warrant a wider street.
A public hearing on the city's proposals for Short Street will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 20th.
