Northeast Iowa Community College has received a grant to support environmental improvements at the college's Calmar campus.
Trees Forever and Alliant Energy Branching Out community tree-planting program have awarded NICC $2,000 toward the purchase of approximately 16 high quality shagbark hickory, white oak, red oak and bur oak trees for planting at the Calmar campus.
The tree purchases and planting are integrated into a campus-wide sustainable conservation plan that will eventually include a public garden, butterfly garden, shelterbelt, bioswale, oak savannah and a short grass native prairie.
Trees Forever administers the Branching Out program throughout Iowa to provide technical and planning support to participating communities. Alliant Energy funds the overall program and provides project grants to communities
