The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department says it is investigating a fraud case involving a company calling itself "Riley Painting and Roof Coating.
The men involved in the business have contacted several Winneshiek County farmers about painting or roofing jobs. They use high pressure tactics and sometimes give very low cost estimates, which are then raised later. They also ask for payment in advance.
The sheriff's department says the work done has been very poor and has not been completed.
Attempts to reach the business owners have failed. The three vehicles used by the men--a red Dodge truck, a white van and a blue Ford or Dodge truck--did not have any business markings. The telephone number given on the business card shows the company is from 77 Wood Lake Drive SE in Rochester--but that is the location of the Country Inn and Suites.
The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department is asking the public for help in identifying any of the individuals involved.
