It was not just President Barack Obama who visited Decorah on Monday and Tuesday--it was the Secret Service's new $1.1 million bus for the President.
Little is known about the new vehicle's interior, but plenty is known about its cost. Last year, the Secret Service placed an order for two buses with the Hemphill Brothers Coach Company of Whites Creek, Tennessee at a combined cost of $2,191,960.
Secret Service officials defend the bus purchases as long overdue. Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan told ABC News in April, "Designing our own vehicle really affords us a level of security that we can't achieve by leasing a bus and outfitting it with temporary equipment."
