Construction has begun on the new Veterans Administration Outpatient Clinic in Decorah.

VA spokesperson Valerie Cunningham says her agency awarded the construction contract in July, with construction now getting started.  Cunningham says "barring unseen circumstances" the new VA Outpatient Clinic should open its door before the end of the year.

The VA Outpatient Clinic in Decorah is the result of strong lobbying by Northeast Iowa veterans groups, who said veterans often needed to ride three hours one way to the VA Clinic in Iowa City for even the most routine medical care.  The new clinic in Decorah will serve veterans from throughout Northeast Iowa.
