One of three bald eagle chicks has flown away from Decorah

The young eaglet that researchers have called "D1" has left Decorah.

The eaglet flew 32 miles on Sunday, leaving Decorah and heading north-northwest to Fillmore County, Minnesota, in the area of Preston, Fountain and Lanesboro.

This year is the first time researchers will be able to track the movements of an eaglet.  Volunteers from the Raptor Resource Institute put a tracking device on one of the three young eaglets and will map the eaglet's movements.

Says Raptor Resource Director Bob Anderson, "This is going to be so interesting to learn the wanderings of a Iowa fledged bald eagle."
