North Winneshiek students have done well on the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills, according to information presented to the North Winn School Board Monday night.
The North Winneshiek School met the Adequate Yearly Progress goals set by the federal government in several areas. Grades 3-5 met the AYP for reading and mathematics, since 84 percent of the 3-5 graders were proficient in reading and 88 percent were proficient in mathematics. Grades 6-8 met the AYP for mathematics, since 81.25 percent of the 6-8 graders were proficient in reading and 93.75 percent were proficient in mathematics.
When the reading, mathematics and science test scores were combined and compared with national averages, North Winn 3rd grade students achieved a 4.7 grade equivalent, 4th grader a 6.1 grade equivalent, 5th graders a 6.7 grade equivalent, 6th graders a 7.7 grade equivalent, 7th graders a 9.3 grade equivalent and 8th graders an 11.7 grade equivalent.
National achievement rates for third to eighth graders indicate North Winneshiek students are achieving the highest in science, followed by mathematics and then reading.
