Winneshiek Medical Center projects saving energy

Winneshiek Medical Center officials say they expect to save between $7,000 to $8,000 a month on energy costs because of several projects being done at the hospital.

The largest project involves removing the old heating and cooling ducts in the building.  The new system will use one air handler instead of four and will use one set of ducts instead of two.  Contractors are currently in the process of removing the old ducts.  A crane was brought in on Thursday to help install the new air handler.

In addition to the new heating and cooling ducts and air handler, smaller projects involve installing more effective temperature controls and better lighting.
