The Decorah City Council has passed a resolution calling on the state legislature to increase the state's gas tax.
The resolution was introduced by city council member Steve Matter, who says rising construction costs have outpaced tax revenues. Other city council members agreed with the need to get additional road use tax revenues. The city council has passed similar resolutions in the past, but they're hoping this is finally the year something gets done. The last gas tax increase in Iowa was in 1989.
