The Decorah Police Department has asked the Public Safety Committee to spend $4,500 to buy three tasers for officers to use.
Police Chief Bill Nixon says the tasers would be a useful law enforcement tool and would help significantly minimize injuries to officers. Nixon says the tasers would be used "to supplement the tools we have available."
Public Safety Committee chair Randy Schissel says he would like to "make this happen," but there isn't money available in the budget. Schissel says the request is being studied for ways the city could come up with the money for the tasers.
