Work begins on Education Center and restrooms at the Decorah Fish Hatchery

It's full speed ahead on the new Education Center and restrooms at the Decorah Fish Hatchery.

A crew has been working at the Hatchery on drilling a new well.  Hatchery Manager Brian Malaise says tests were done last May on the drinking water at the offices of the Hatchery and the water "failed miserably."  That required installation of a new well—one that will serve both the Hatchery offices and the new Education Center and restrooms.

In addition to installing a new well, the construction project will install a 10 foot by 20 foot chlorination station near the well, with pipes being run to the Hatchery offices and to the Education Center.  Crews will also trench power lines to the chlorination station.

Once the building is completed, the new 330 foot deep well will deliver water to both facilities.

Meanwhile, potential contractors for the Education Center met last Wednesday for a preconstruction meeting.  Bids on the construction of the new building wll be opened this Wednesday.
