By the narrowest of margins Frankville residents have supported plans for a municipal water system.
51 people responded to certified survey letters that asked them whether they supported or opposed plans for a municipal water district. 26 of those supported the district--enough of a majority to satisfy Winneshiek County supervisors, who had said they would endorse the project if more than half of the survey responses were "yes" votes.
An application now will be field for a $705,000 USDA grant. If the grant is approved, the rest of the cost of the district would be paid through a low interest loan.
County supervisor John Logsdon said the operation of the water district is in the hands of Frankville residents, not county officials. "This is a Frankville water project," he said.
