This week's heat wave has sent Decorah weather observer Richard Bernatz to the record books.
He says the average temperature for July 2011 as of Friday, July 22nd, is 76.8 degrees Fahrenheit. If that average holds for the remaining days in July, 2011 would be the 7th hottest July on record. The hottest July on record is 1901, with an average of 80.4 degrees.
For this month, the average low temperature of 66.1 degrees is significantly higher than the historical average of 60.3 degrees, due in large part to the high humidity we've experienced. The average high temperature for July 2011 so far is 87.5. The average high temperature for July over the 114 years of data for Decorah is 84.5 degrees.
