The National Weather Service Office in La Crosse says the Heat Index in Decorah was at or above 100 degrees for five days in a row this past week.
From Saturday through Wednesday, actual high temperatures were above 90 degrees, hitting 97 degrees on Tuesday.
However, the Heat Index--the temperature the body feels when heat and humidity are combined--reached 111 degrees on Monday, July 18th, and 114 degrees on Tuesday, July 19th.
As high as the Heat Index was in Decorah on Tuesday, it still wasn't the highest figure recorded in the Upper Midwest. Austin, Minnesota recorded a Heat Index of 121 degrees on Tuesday--the same day Rochester, Minnesota set an all-time record with a dew point of 83 degrees.
