Regulations for downtown Decorah trees may be rewritten

Last year City of Decorah officials cracked down on residential property owners with tree branches that hung too low over sidewalks or streets.  Some of those property owners now are asking why there are low-hanging tree branches on commercial property in Decorah, especially downtown.

City officials say they are studying the tree ordinance and may change the regulations pertaining to trees in the downtown area.  On the one hand, city officials like having the trees and greenery downtown, but on the other hand, they want to make sure pedestrians don't have problems walking on the downtown sidewalks.
