New recycling bins will go into use in Winneshiek County

New recycling bins will be placed in Calmar, Fort Atkinson and Ossian by the end of July.

The bins are being added because there has been a very large increase in recycling participation over the past few years in these areas.  As a result, the old bins could no longer handle the volume of recyclable material.  The new bins have much greater capacity and are the most durable and easiest to use model available.

The new bins were purchased with the assistance of a grant from the Winneshiek County Community Foundation and also from the Winneshiek County Recycling Department equipment replacement budget.

The old bins that are still structurally sound will be converted into cardboard collection units. The ones that are not will be filled with unwanted bicycles and sent through an automobile shredder so they can be recycled into new steel products.
