The Friends of Decorah Public Library group is now selling new tote bags to raise funds for the library.
Designed by Decorah High School junior Chris Wieseler, the bag features bright colors on a roomy, canvas bag with heavy duty handles and a snap closure. The bags are available for purchase for $20 at Donlon Health Mart Pharmacy, Dragonfly Books, Once Upon a Time Book Shop, Agora Arts and at the Library's circulation desk.
Wieseler created the bag's whimsical design last fall when he was enrolled in Tom Sheppard's Digital Painting class at Decorah High School. His artwork was selected from a number of student submissions. The son of Monte and Cheryl Wieseler, Wieseler's hobbies include soccer, basketball, cross country and tae kwon do, music and technical design. His favorite book is "The Hobbit."
Sheppard recently completed his seventh year as a teacher in Decorah. Artwork produced by pupils in his middle school classes at Carrie Lee School is displayed on a regular basis in the hallway of the library leading to the children's area. Sheppard says the pictures, rotated every 4-6 weeks, are selected at random and reflect a variety of ages and media.
The Friends of Decorah Public Library group was created to be a support organization for the Decorah Public Library. The Friends help raise awareness of the Library in the community and supports and sponsors many programs within the Library as well as doing work 'behind the scenes' to help make the Library a facility relevant to all the residents of the greater Decorah area.
