Fort Atkinson woman suffers diabetic attack which leads to traffic accident

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department says a Fort Atkinson woman was traveling on Highway 52 Wednesday night when she suffered a diabetic imbalance.

Deb Schmitt lost control of her car around 5:30 p.m.  The car struck a ditch embankment before crossing the bicycle path, becoming airborne and rolling after colliding with a tree.

Schmitt was extricated from her car with the Jaws of Life.  First Responders treated her for the sugar imbalance.

Sheriff's deputies say Schmitt's life was saved by the quick medical attention after the accident and by her seatbelt and airbag during the accident.
