Decorah School District abandoning plan to install LED light panels at Decorah High School

Decorah school district officials say it will be too expensive to install LED lighting fixtures in Decorah High School, as was first thought possible.  The LED lights are $150 more expensive than the fluorescent lights—and even lower operating costs can't make back that difference.  Besides, with 722 fixtures in the high school, it would cost $126,000 more to install all LED lights.

However, there is one location where the LED lights will be used.  Decorah Bank and Trust has agreed to donate the money for 12 LED lights in the high school's environmental science classroom.
